HEALTH – Tears [Max Payne 3 Soundtrack]

No Comments Electronic, Indie Rock, Rock

Today we have a cut from the score of the game Max Payne 3 Soundtrack composed by Los Angeles band Health. Taking in inspiration from the location where the story takes place, Brazil, the band creates a very heavy, rock song full of powerful drums and a haze of electronics.

The official release of the soundtrack is set for next week. Enjoy.

Diplo & Usher – Climax (Herve Remix)

No Comments Dirty Electro, Electronic

It’s friday. It is time to unwind and let loose. Diplo has become the most sought after producer, working with M.I.A., Beyonce, Usher and even on the upcoming album from No Doubt. His ability to deliver complex and technical drum beats and a pioneer in the moombahton scene has made him one of our favorite producers. On to of that we have, Herve, one of London’s most popular producers, always creating aggressive fully-charged electro bangers. Combine the two together with a sprkingle of Usher and we have for you something that will get you ready for the weekend. Enjoy.

Damien Jurado : Reel to Reel

No Comments Uncategorized

I’m uber-stoked about Damien Jurado‘s newest album, Maraqopa, which he’s currently on tour promoting. On it, Jurado’s mellow voice and subtle acoustic songs are blended with washes of psyched-out electric guitars, dramatic string arrangements, and even, in one instance, a chorus of little kids singing.  It’s full of surprises and really fun to listen to.

“Reel to Reel” is a song that won me over immediately.  It’s groovy and ghostly, and it wears its Eno-influence on its sleeve.  All ingredients to a song that I will love.

Dada Life April 2012 Mix

No Comments Electronic, Remixed Goodness

As The Music Ninja said, “Ready to go play in the water? Get happy drunk in the afternoon? Yeah that is what Spring is all about right… and now, here’s your soundtrack. BIG FRILLS, NO FILLER.” I couldn’t have said it better myself. I’m not even going to try. I have a love for Dada Life and have since I was first introduced to them by the ninja a couple of years ago. Some of you will love it, some will not understand.. just turn it up. You’ll get it.

The Henry Clay People: 25 For The Rest Of Our Lives

No Comments Rock, SXSW

The Henry Clay People, yeah if you’ve not heard this group of rock and rollers, you definitely need to take the time to give them a listen. We were very fortunate to have seen them at SXSW this year and I am so happy to finally share them with you!

Their latest EP drops June 26th, but of course, we have a preview for you of their newest single! Of course!

The Henry Clay People actually formed out of complete boredom.. they started playing together in college, then on to some house parties, some local venues, now Coachella, SXSW, ACL… I just have to say I’m so glad they were bored that day they decided to play together. Really? Boredom? I wish my boredom paid off like theirs did! The California natives have a truly catchy, edgy sound that won’t be forgotten.

Bruce Springsteen: Atlantic City

No Comments Acoustic, Folk, SXSW

I was having a discussion with friends the other day about Bruce Springsteen. I’ve been on a Bruce kick lately, and I’m sure his much-talked-about SXSW Keynote speech is partly what got me there.

Bruce is one of those artists that took me forever to get into. His catalog of music is not only huge, but extremely varied.  Much more varied than FM radio will have you believe.  So finally, after years of not quite knowing what to make of him, somebody turned me on to the Nebraska album. I’ve been in love ever since.

Nebraska is a collection of stark and gritty acoustic songs.  The album is haunting, desperate, tragic, and a great entry point into Springsteen’s music for those who might not be sold on his 80′s radio anthems.

With summer coming, I’ll definitely have Atlantic City on heavy rotation as I drive around thinking about the beach.

Black Taxi: Tightrope

No Comments Indie Rock

So a couple of friends, tired, beat down from the antics of SXSW, walk into a bar… And hear a surprisingly awesome band!

I was NOT expecting anything super when I walked into this tiny bar, but I knew my feet hurt and I would love elevator music to be able to sit down for a few beers. Elevator music, I did not hear. The Brooklyn based indie rock band, Black Taxi, took over the bar with playful lyrics and rock vibe with a side of punk. It was a perfect evening.

Delta Spirit: Money Saves

No Comments Rock, SXSW

Delta Spirit… le sigh. You make my heart do flips. I fallen completely in love with the new self titled album. Favorite tracks include? All of them. No, seriously, this album is that awesome. Promise.

Since I can’t share all of them, I’ll share one I think you will all love as well. And if you don’t, well maybe you should put on your headphones and blare it a few hundred times until you learn to like it.

“Money Saves” is definitely a winner. Give these southern boys a shot. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Ed Sheeran: The A Team

No Comments Pop, Singer/Songwriter, Soul, SXSW

So once again, The Music Ninja drug me to a show I was not sure about.. I don’t know why I ever attempt to question his taste.. Much to my delight, him dragging me to see Ed Sheeran at SXSW this year turned out to be one of my favorite performances the whole week. Intimate setting, like sitting on the back patio at home with a cold beer.. lots of people that, of course, I considered my friends because they were there to enjoy great music and the involvement of beer always helps.

Ed came on and I was thinking, “Mmmkay.. Hope this guy is good.” And, well, I was wrong. He was fabulous. “The A Team” is a track he wrote after visiting a local homeless shelter in London. It holds a slightly haunting feeling of despair with a glimmer of hope mixed in where you least expect it. Amazingly written and even better performed live.

[FRESH] Fossil Collective: Let It Go

1 Comment Folk, Indie

Magical and sweet. Blissful and swoonworthy. Fossil Collective are all of the above. Their sound reminds me of autumn.. of the colors of fall leaves, the crisp air.. or maybe it’s just the onset of summer getting to me and everything folk reminds me of fall lately. But either way, I crave both. Fall and folk music, two things dear to my heart. And Fossil Collective is all snuggled up to my heart these days.

The leeds, England duo have created such an incredible indie folk sound that will not soon be forgotten. I am totally in love with this track, “Let It Go”, from their upcoming EP under the same name. The EP will be released June 11th and not a moment too soon!
