Like most folks who are heading out to Austin next week, I’ve got a huge list of parties to go to and bands I really, really would love to see. Here are just a few of them.
Noah Gundersen – I first heard his music while watching Sons of Anarchy and the song immediately stuck in my head. With a sweet but soulful voice, and lyrics that paint pictures both hopeful and dark, Noah Gundersen is definitely worth checking out.
Check him out at:
Latest Flame/Greyday/Silver Side – March 16th @ Side Bar.
Futurebirds – The Futurebirds are not only talented as all hell, they put on a really fun, energetic show. Plus, I’m always a sucker for the banjo. With a lively Southern tilt to their sound, Futurebirds are definitely a must-see!
Check them out at:
This Is American Music / Goo Goo Cluster – March 14th @ Mean-Eyed Cat
Classic and Weird Collide! The Sounds of Athens/Austin – March 15th @ Liberty
40 Watt Club – March 17th @ Side Bar
Crystal Antlers – I had only vaguely heard of this band but never sought them out until I stumbled upon them in my SXSW party searches. Their sound is mildly psychedelic but certainly not jammy, with just a hint of My Morning Jacket-esque sound.
Screaming Females – I have seen this band numerous times and they never, ever disappoint. This punk trio puts on an incredibly tight and intense show and watching diminutive Marissa Paternoster shred her guitar into insanity is always an awed pleasure.
If you happen to find yourself with a little down-time in your schedule (I know, it’s nearly unheard of) check these great bands out!
